CRYSTAL 2012/M – MODIFYING FLUX IN GRANULAR FORM
Crystal 2012/M is a modifying flux, in granular form, suitable for metallurgical treatment (sodium based) of hypoeutectic and eutectic Al-Si alloys (Si 6-13%) in crucible furnaces or ladles.
Modification treatment alters the silicon structure of the alloy and improves castings mechanical properties.
The structure of silicon changes from coarse and angular, with acicular crystals, to fine, with interconnected, rounded and perfectly distributed fibrous particles in the aluminum matrix.
The main advantage is the notable improvement in the mechanical characteristics of tensile strength and elongation.
Crystal 2012/M flux is recommended for modification treatments of Al-Si alloys cast at low temperatures, between 700 and 730°C. The slag formed by Crystal 2012 M has a pasty appearance.
